Rotary Clubs throughout Latvia run charitable projects within the local communities.
The Riga International Rotary Club will be allocating money raised through Santa’s Fun Run & Walk to The RMHC Care Mobile and Martina Fonds.
Care Mobile
Help Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) raise 200,000 EUR to cover operating costs and expenditures for Care Mobile.
A donation to the Care Mobile project is a donation to the health and well being of the children of Latvia. Care Mobile, in partnership with Latvia's Children's Hospital, will travel the Latvian countryside to:
deliver health care services to Latvia’s children in need;
reduce dependence on expensive hospital emergency services;
ensure continuity of care through referrals to primary care physicians and dentists;
and save families money they would otherwise spend on travel expenses and examination costs.
Care Mobile services are provided in custom-built 12 metre long, state of the art trucks (valued at 400,000 EUR) designed to deliver pediatric health care.
The vehicles feature:
- two medical specialists;
- two patient examination rooms;
- a laboratory; and
- reception and medical records areas.
During the end of 2010 and first part of 2011, Care Mobile will travel to Aluksne, Ape, Dagda, Aglona and Livani in Latvia. It will travel to other parts of Latvia in the second half of 2011.
More than 5000 children will receive free medical care every year. The Care Mobile is self sufficient. It travels to the children – anywhere in Latvia.
More than 500,000 EUR have been invested into Care Mobile:
Over 150,000 EUR have been spent directly in Latvia, including:
26,000 EUR spent on chassis, built in Riga;
48,000 EUR spent on ophthalmological equipment, in Latvia;
80,000 EUR spent on a Volvo tractor/ trailer pull, (donated byVolvo Latvia)
6, 000 EUR for additional medical equipment (donated by the International Rotary Club of Riga)
Care Mobile operations are 100% funded through corporate and private donations.
Supporters include: Linstow, Johnson & Johnson, Premier Restaurants, KPMG, Microsoft, Diatom Enterprises, Klavins & Slaidins, Meditec, International Rotary Club of Riga, Hotel Bergs, Olympic Casino, American Chamber of Commerce, RB Management, and many others.
Your donation is needede to fund the salaries and annual operating budget for Care Mobile. Help us raise 310,000 EUR.
Many children in rural Latvia do not have access to primary medical care. Without necessary immunizations and routine physical exams, these children are at risk of developing acute conditions, dental problems, chronic diseases and serious lifelong illnesses. Minor health problems are often undiagnosed until they become severe, making them difficult and expensive to treat -- which could haunt a child for the rest of his or her life.
